I’d like to set up a promotion: 20% off all hiking boots, excluding discontinued models, from today until the end of the month.

Want me to set up the promotion for hiking boots at 20% off, excluding discontinued models, running from today until the end of the month and visible in Google Shopping?

Just reply Yes or No.

Yes, please set it up.

Done. I’ve set up the promotion. Here are the details:

  • Discount: 20%
  • Product type: Hiking boots (excluding discontinued)
  • Runtime: today until end of month
  • Visible: Google Shopping and free listings
  • Promotion ID: hikingboots20_a1b2c3d4e5

Note: Google is now reviewing the promotion. Once approved, the discount badge appears on your products, usually within 12 to 24 hours.

Why Ginny

Otherwise a discount campaign eats half your afternoon

Setting up a promotion in the Merchant Center usually means: hunting for fields, gathering product IDs, finding the right offer type, setting the runtime, and then hoping Google doesn’t reject it over a technicality. Most merchants let promotions slide or build them wrong in a hurry. Ginny takes that whole part off your plate.

All features

What Ginny handles for your promotions

One sentence in chat instead of a click‑marathon in the Merchant Center. Ginny builds the promotion, you approve.

Say it in one sentence

Describe the promotion the way you picture it. Ginny turns it into a correctly configured promotion. Google assigns the internal promotion ID automatically, you don’t look up any number.

“Free shipping over €50 cart value, brand Nordkap only, for two weeks.”

Every discount type Google supports

Either automatic for everyone or tied to a coupon code.

  • Percent off
  • Amount off
  • Free shipping
  • Free gift
  • Bulk discount
  • With or without code

Exactly the right products

For your whole catalog or narrowed down precisely, freely combinable and for exclusions too.

  • Brand
  • Product type
  • Item group
  • Product IDs

Custom labels don’t work for promotions, that’s a Google rule.

Nothing goes live until you approve

Ginny checks the promotion technically and formally first, shows you exactly what will be created, and waits for your approval. Only then does Google review it. Automation with full control.

Status in view anytime

Ask Ginny how your promotions stand. She lists them all with their Google review status.

  • Winter boots −20%approved
  • Free shipping over €50in review
  • Brand Nordkap −€5rejected

How it passes at Google

Ginny already knows the rules

Google reviews every promotion. Ginny keeps the formal rules automatically so you don’t fall into the usual traps.

  • Minimum discount 5% or €5, percentages only as whole numbers
  • Maximum discount below 100% of cart value
  • Runtime at most six months per promotion
  • Clear description, without all‑caps words or exclamation marks
  • No sweepstakes, trade‑in, mail‑in rebate or tax waiver
  • Free shipping only with a valid coupon code
The most common rejection reason: price consistency. The regular price must stay, the discount is applied in the cart, and feed price and shop price must match. That’s the one point Ginny can’t enforce, but she flags it for you.

Review usually takes 12 to 24 hours from start, plan some lead time. Since January 2026, discounts on subscription fees are allowed too.

Rejection reason 1

Discount too small

Anything below 5% or €5 gets thrown out. Ginny keeps the lower limit automatically.

Rejection reason 2

Price baked in early

If the reduced price is already in the product price, Google kills the promotion. The regular price has to stay.

Rejection reason 3

Too little lead time

Starting on the morning of the promo day costs a day of review. A few days of buffer solve it.

In brief

What is a Merchant Center promotion?

A special offer Google shows right on your products, as a strikethrough price or sale badge in Shopping ads and the free product listings.

Merchant Center promotion

Discount right on the product, in Google Shopping and the free listings. That’s what this is about.

Promotion extension

An add‑on note on your text search ads. A different feature, often confused.

Requirement: Merchant Center connected to Cloudginny and the promotions program activated in the Merchant Center.

FAQ

Common questions

What’s the difference between a Merchant Center promotion and a promotion extension?
A Merchant Center promotion shows the discount right on your products in Google Shopping and the free product listings. A promotion extension shows an add‑on note on your text search ads. They are two separate features.
How long does Google’s review take?
Usually 12 to 24 hours from the promotion’s start time. Plan a few days of lead time if the promotion needs to run on a fixed date.
What’s the minimum discount?
At least 5 percent of the price or 5 euros. Google only accepts percentages as whole numbers.
Can I pause a promotion?
No. The Google interface has no pause and no delete. You can only end a promotion, and that’s final. For a restart, you create a new promotion.
Can I limit the discount to specific brands?
Yes. You can narrow by brand, product type, item group or individual product IDs, and use the same criteria for exclusions too.
Do I need a coupon code?
Only if you want to, with one exception: free‑shipping promotions always need a valid code per Google. All other discounts run with or without a code.
Does this apply to subscription products too?
Yes. Since January 2026, Google also allows discounts on subscription fees.
